2007.08.18 - Anthony Warlow, Ana Marina, John Bowles - Recorded from the front row. Because of being so close, you can hear everything including the chandelier itself at the end of the first act.

1991.11.17 - Austria - Vienna - Alexander Goebel, Colleen Besett, Andrew Hambly-Smith Soundboard. Starts with the warning that recording devices are not allowed. A very good and clear recording. Slight analog hiss if you turn the volume up high. Some electronic fuzz approximately 5:35 into the 11th track of Act One (during the ballet) and three times into track 13 of Act One (during All I Ask of You) - lasts less than 2 seconds each time. Alexander is excellent, of course (his Final Lair is heartbreaking) and Colleen's voice very smooth. 2 CDs (A/A-)
1991.12.13 - Vienna - Same as the audio above
1991.12.15 - Vienna - Alexander Goebel, Janet Chvatal (u/s), Andrew Hambley-Smith, Robin Lee, Dennis Kozeluh, Horst Reek, Felicitas Morawitz, Sergio Lombano, Alexandra Young - Highlights, Phantom-oriented, about 45 minutes long.
1992.02.29 - Vienna - Alexander Goebel, Colleen Besett, Andrew Hambly-Smith

Suttheimer, Joke de Kruifj, Thorsten TInney, Peter Vorwerg, Jack Poppell, Helene Tintes, Valda Aviks, Vittorio Giammarrusco, LInda Healy, Alexandra Young - Ernst is a great Phantom, he goes somewhat insane during the final lair. Joke is a perfect Christine. The audio is skewed to the right a little, but it is still enjoyable. Has a faint mechanical hum underneath it. - (A-/A)
1993.05.18 - Vienna - Alfred Pfeifer, Joke de Kruijf, Thorsten Tinney

BROADWAY
1988.02.28 - Michael Crawford, Sarah Brightman, Steve Barton, Nicholas Wyman, Christopher Groenendaal, Judy Kaye, Leila Martin, David Romano, Elisa Heinsohn. Stunning quality for its age. Very little hiss and very clear. Occasional background flickering. Really like Crawford's performance here. (A-/B+)

1988.10.12 - Timothy Nolen (u/s), Patti Cohenour, Steve Barton, Nick Wyman, Cris Groenendaal, Judy Kaye, Leila Martin, David Romano - Highlights of the show. Includes the usual Phantom-Christine highlights but is lacking Wandering Child :( Nolen seems to be making up his own tune for 'I Have Brought You'. Hiss and some crackling, can be a little quiet at times. (B)

1990.09.26 - SOUNDBOARD. Steve Barton, Rebecca Luker, Gary Lindemenn (u/s), Marilyn Caskey, Jeff Keller, George Lee Andrews, Leila Martin. Decent audio, Soundboard recording, so the vocals are very clear, though they drown out the Orchestra much of the time. Act 1 is medium volume, Act 2 gets very quiet at times. Steve's Phantom is amazing, his gorgeous voice and passion totally make up for the slight stuggle with the high notes. (B)

Caskey, Larry Wayne Morbitt, Heather McFadden - Recorded from front row, you can hear *everything*, dresses swishing during Hannibal, the notes shuffling during Notes, Christine decloaking the Phantom in PONR, etc. You can’t get more perfect than this; even a soundboard audio wouldn’t have picked up so much detail. Includes Gaschen’s post-show speech for UNICEF. 2 CD (A+)

2006.08.16 - Matinee - Howard McGillin, Rebecca Pitcher, Michael Shawn Lewis, David Cryer, George Lee Andrews, Patricia Phillips, Marilyn Caskey, Roland Rusinek, Heather McFadden - 2nd generation. Taper says: Recorded from left orchestra, 15 rows back on the aisle. Very clear recording of the principal Broadway cast. Problems: Europeans behind me had a single translator device and had it cranked so those near them could hear it – you sometimes hear that in the quiet parts (though not as much as I thought you would). Interesting: there seemed to be some glitches in the performance – the Phantom's recording drops for a few seconds in Notes II (Caskey was about to start reading the rest of it, but the recording picked up again), and though you can't hear it, the curtain came down late after the Angel scene, so you could actually see the set and shims on stage while the rest of the cast is taking their "bows" before the chandelier dropped. Lewis had to dash offstage. Nice cover by the entire cas!The audience was really fired up and applauded for everything, so it definitely rubbed off on the cast, despite the technical issues. - 2 CDs (A)

Recorded from the front row, so you get all those extra little stage noises, but there is overload on the really loud notes - Cuts off a little of the AIAOY Reprise, but curtain call and Howard's BC/EFA and 8000th performance speeches are included. (A-)

2011.06.27 - Anythony Crivello, Sarah Elizabeth Combs (us), Andrew Ragone - A lovely clear audio with a little bass overload but it's not noticeable unless turned up really load. Sarah Elizabeth Combs is amazing as Christine with such a beautiful voice! Now one of my favourite

1995.06.21 - Manchester -Paul Monaghan (u/s), Nikki Ankarra, Richard Burman, Alan Rice (u/s), Paul Bentley, Sandra Dugdale. Originally analog and the quality is far from desirable.
1995.11.?? - Manchester - Mark McKerracher, Nikki Ankara, Mike Sterling, Alan Rice, Paul Bently, Sandra Dugdale, Janet Cowley, Adrian Martin, Lorraine Chappell - You couldn't ask for better quality for an audio this age, includes the exit music directly after the final note, you couldn't ask for better quality for any year, it's stunningly clear. I'm not the biggest fan of the cast, but the quality is wonderful! A+
1996.02.17 - Edinburgh - Mark McKerracher, Carmen Cusack (u/s), Andrew Halliday, Anthony Raffell, Paul Monaghan, Dante Holst, Samantha-Fawcett Young (u/s), Adrian Martin, Amanda Light. Transfered from 1st gen cassettes. Horrendous raw quality, sounds like a cassette recorder's internal mic was used. After much cleaning, words are now discernable and audible over the noise of the rotating tapeheads. A lot of background noise remains and it goes a bit pitchy at times. Missing a bit of the title song on a flip point. A shame because the cast sounds excellent, especially Carmen, the only recording with her as Christine. (C+)

1990.??.?? - Los Angeles - Robert Guillaume (Phantom), Dale Kristien (Christine) - This is the only full recording of Robert Guillaume as the Phantom I have ever come across, and while I do not think his voice is suited to the Phantom, it is still beautiful and very enjoyable to listen to - A bit hissy and dull sounding but that is expected from an audio this old, could probably be fixed up quite easily

Anderson, John Jellison, Patti Davidson-Gorbea, Kate Wray - 2nd gen. digital. Taper says: “Jason Mills' FIRST performance as the Phantom, and a great first performance it is. Recorded from the third row, and unfortunately features a tone-deaf fan humming along with one (short) part of the Overture. Missing the Entr'acte, and features some disruption in Point of No Return just after Marie removes Jason's mask, due to the person to my right crawling over me and running out of the theatre. Some hiss due to being recorded on .mp3 recorder, but a unique recording of a Phantom's FIRST performance.” - 2 CDs (B)
2006.04.05 - Dallas - Gary Mauer, Marie Danvers, Jim Weitzer, John Jellison, DC Anderson, Kim Stengel, Patti Davidson-Gorbea, John Whitney, Kate Wray - 2nd gen from DIGITAL MASTER. Taper says: Mauer's last show with Marie Danvers. Very clear audio, despite seats (almost in the back of the theatre, but next to soundboard). Mauer was on FIRE that night. His Final Lair has gotten really, really good. Second to last for Mauer and Jellison. Includes Gary's BC/EFA speech at end. - 2 CDs (A)

2007.01.05 - Toledo, OH - David Gaschen (u/s), Marni Raab, Michael Gillis, Kim Stengel, Bruce Winant, DC Anderson, Patti Davidson-Gorbea, John Whitney, Kate Wray - 1st gen. from master. Recorded with a digital voice recorder from the second row by my friend. Not that bad for an audio not done on MD. There were lots of little technical difficulties that night and David flubs a bit (though he was good otherwise). Marni was a surprise disappointment and Michael is good other than a tendancy to yell his lines hilariously (namely "I feeeeear yoooouuuu nooooot!"). - 2 CDs (B)

A bit bassy and unbalanced at times, also some flickering but it's not too much of a problem. - The worst is at the beginning of the graveyard scene but Wishing isn't affected after the first few lines. Otherwise it's nice and clear. JOJ gives a wonderful performance, the audience starts applauding before the end - one enthusiastic person even starts clapping before he's finished his last note! Interesting to listen to Robyn now that she's been a principle and hear the differences. (B+)

1985 - SYDMONTON WORKSHOP. 1985. Colm Wilkinson, Sarah Brightman, Clive Carter. Carlotta: Myra Sands. M. Firmin: David Burt. M. Andre: Jeff Shankley. Meg Giry: Jacqui Harman. Buquet/Porter: Christopher Beck. Jose Caniussi/Jailer/Don Nero: Paul Leonard. Auctioneer/Prisoner: Ken Caswell. Absolutely fascinating audio showing how the show devloped. Only the first act was performed so that's what this audio consists of. Very interesting lyric changes and I really really like Sarah here - she sounds perfectly Christine like. Not the best quality audio but for 20 years old it's pretty good. Constant hiss but not too bad and overload. Without taking age into account: (C)

BROADWAY
1988.02.28 - Michael Crawford, Sarah Brightman, Steve Barton, Nicholas Wyman, Christopher Groenendaal, Judy Kaye, Leila Martin, David Romano, Elisa Heinsohn. Stunning quality for its age. (B)
